Deborah Forney Classes

Deborah Forney is coming to teach April 10-13, 2008. She is a wonderfully vibrant teacher. If you have the opportunity, I hope you will join us.

Deborah has taught for the American Needlepoint Guild seminar most recently in our fair city of Baltimore. One of the classes she taught there - Blue Crab Blues - filled immediately. She will be teaching it here for us this Spring. Oh what fun!

She will also be teaching Gypsy Butterfly which while you can stitch it exactly like hers, you can also modify the colors and create your own unique interpretation. Branch out, play with different threads! Create your own one-of-a-kind butterfly.

All details can be found on our website by clicking news and events.

Check your calendar and sign up soon. Class registration ends March 1, 2008.

Classes

Anyone who knows me, knows that one of the main reasons I wanted to open an honest to goodness storefront was my love of classes. I will teach anyone anything I know one on one, but put me in front of a room full of people and it just isn't pretty.

I love taking classes. Now, that isn't to say I loved school, because I didn't. But, a class that is art and technique and I'm in my element. That I love.

So, I invite all of the talented teachers in our industry to come visit for a weekend and share their magic.

We have had Brenda Hart come teach and will be having her back many more times. She is truly an amazing teacher. She works with each student's canvas individually to bring it to life, picking stitches, creating stitches, selecting threads that without her we wouldn't have thought of. As our projects get finished, I will post photos here.

I will also post details of upcoming classes as they are planned. You may also visit the news and events page of our website at anytime to see what's happening.

Merry Christmas and Happy Crab

No, I haven't been drinking, but I did just receive some great new pieces back from the finisher. One of which is the checkered crab frame weight designed exclusively for us by Squiggee aka Gail Hendrix.

Gail's canvases are all beautifully painted making them a joy to stitch. This crab frame weight is funky and fun. The flowers were quick and easy to stitch in long stitches of Petite Sparkle Rays or silk ribbon embroidery. Of course I had to make a run to the fabric store to find big crystal buttons for his eyes. He's a cutie.

I'll post more pictures as soon as possible. It's always fun to see finishing. Besides all of our new designs that will be released at market in 2 weeks I have also completed stitch guides for 2 new Melissa Shirley canvases and the Strictly Christmas Stitching Santa. So, stay tuned. More to follow.

Happy Holidays.

Brenda Hart is Amazing!!!!

We have had a great weekend at the shop. Brenda Hart has been here for 3 full days working her magic with canvas embellishment!

Everyone has a different canvas and Brenda is developing stitches and selecting threads on the fly for everyone. There are Maggie canvases and Melissa Shirley canvases and a few of mine. Her ideas are just amazing. Most of the stitches Brenda selects are patterns made up out of her head. She looks at the canvas differently and brings it to life in a way you can't imagine.

She will be back May 2-4, so if you are in the area, or want to come for a visit it will be a great time! Call us or watch the website for more details.

New Series

I thought it would be fun to create a series that isn't a series. Well, it's sort of a series, but it's not a club. It's just a group of ornaments that are loosely related in that they are all designed to look pretty together.

These are a few of my favorite things.

The first ornament in the series is the Baltimore Crab. Crabs are my favorite food so that's a good place to start! Each ornament in the series is handpainted on 18ct mono and comes complete with a stitch guide. The ornaments will be introduced one a year. They will be painted as a limited edition. So, if my favorite things are your favorite things, grab the ornament while you can.

I hope you enjoy them. I had such a great time designing and stitching the Baltimore Crab that it inspired me to start the series.

We're growing!

Thanks to you, I am pleased to announce that business is strong in Cockeysville, Maryland. We've had a great summer and are looking forward to finally seeing some fall weather. Maybe soon.

We had a great time with everyone who came and visited during seminar and miss you all. I wish you lived here. Perhaps we will plan a reunion so that you can come back and visit again soon.

I would like to mention that we are growing and are looking for qualified part time people to join our family. If you are interested and live within commuting distance please email me your resume at sales@bedeckedandbeadazzled.com. This is your chance to work in a needlepoint store filled with beautiful threads and color! what could be more fun!

We're also looking for needlework teachers so if you are interested send your info. You know my dream is to turn bedecked and beadazzled into a shop filled to the brim with learning and creativity. We're getting there.

Can you believe the doors only opened a little over 6 months ago?

Happy Stitching.

It Was Baltimore, Hon

It's only been two weeks but it feels like so much longer since all my new friends left Baltimore. The American Needlepoint Guild Seminar was exciting and a wonderful way for us to meet so many of you. We had a great timeand truly appreciate not only your business, but your kind words about our shop.

This is a labor of love and we all love it. My staff is the best - they are supportive and creative. You, our customers are the best we could want - patient as we grow and willing to try new things. It's all good, and it's all fun!

We are still putting things back in order and filling the requests you left behind just as fast as we can. I still have lots of new items to add to the website.

It's Baltimore, Hon is one of our favorite commemorative designs. It can be finished as an ornament or as a note holder for your desk. The design is 4" x 6" and is stitch painted on 18ct mono. It comes complete with a stitch guide to recreate this Hon in all her beehive glory. You can see more details on our site by clicking on the title above.

We hope you will come back and visit us soon!

Maryland is for Crabs

I admit it. I love steamed crabs. I actually love anything crab. Which is perhaps why I can't decide which of the 5 crab frameweights is my favorite.

Since I love crabs, Old Bay Seasoning is a very important part of my world. I grew up on this stuff. If it's not available in your part of the world you really need to find some. It's a mixture of spices (maybe a little too much salt to be healthy) but boy is it good on steamed crabs, steamed shrimp, crab cakes you get the idea.

It comes packaged in a metal can just like pepper - so it's square.

Now, imagine that grown up and stitchpainted on 13ct canvas. What could make a cuter summer purse for going to picnics and just hanging around.

Exclusive Crab Frame Weights

I admit it. I went a little overboard creating exclusive designs to introduce at the American Needlepoint Guild seminar. I just couldn't stop myself. This is something I always thought would be fun to do and I was right. So watch for many more exclusive designs to come not only in the next few days but as time rolls on. Periodically I will design something just for you that won't be available in any other shops. How cool is that?

Allow me to introduce you to my family of crab frame weights. I worked with Gail Hendrix of Squiggee designs to develop these cutie pies. She did all the hard work, I just told her we needed a crab frame weight. Well, one became two, became three, became four, became five exclusive too cute for words crab frame weights. Each one is perfectly stitch painted on 13ct mono so they stitch in a flash. You can applique them to a tote or a jacket or do as we have done and finish them as frame weights. I can't tell you who is my favorite as I love them all!

We have all of our trunk shows in stock. I think there were 10 at last count. There are canvases everywhere. It's an amazing sight.

If you do not live locally, and are coming to seminar we do hope that you will come visit and see what makes our store different. For one week from August 25th throug the 31st we will be running shuttles to and from the host hotel.

For my local ladies, if you are planning on using our shuttle to get to seminar for the day please send me an email (sales@bedeckedandbeadazzled.com) so that we can confirm your spot. There are very few spaces left.

Thanks for listening to my chatter. See you in Balamer, Hon!

Exclusive Squiggees

Thanks to all the excitement that is building for seminar my brain is a bit addled. (I'm not really sure how to spell addled but that's beside the point.)

It was pointed out to me today that I forgot to mention that Gail Hendrix the genius behind Squiggee Designs was left off my list of designers who were gracious enough to design pieces exclusively for us.

What was I thinking? Obviously, I wasn't thinking. Gail has designed several wonderful pieces just for us. Her canvases are all whimsical and perfectly stitchpainted. Many are on 13ct canvas so you won't believe how quickly they will stitch!

You will have to be patient a little longer before you can see them but believe me they are worth the wait.

All of the exclusive designs will be in the store in time for seminar and on the web as soon as possible after that. I totally understand that real life gets in the way and we can't always attend seminar. So, for those of you attending in spirit only you can still join in some of the fun and see what's new and exclusive here.

Happy stitching.

Brenda Hart Classes

We are delighted to announce that Brenda Hart is coming to teach at our shop this November. Brenda is an amazing teacher. Her specialty is selecting threads and stitches to bring a canvas to life. Currently she is supplying the stitch of the month to the American Needlepoint Guild (www.needlepoint.org) Check it out, I think you will find a stitch or two that really inspire you.

Brenda has also written 5 books of stitches that are classics for your library. Brenda's Favorite Stitches, More Favorite Stitches and Stitches for the Millenium to name a few. She has yet another book coming out shortly. I'm sure this one will be as exciting as the others.

I have been fortunate to have her write stitch guides for several of my canvases (Shopper Ladies, Party Girls and Summer Shoppers) They are all amazing! The stitch and thread selections are great fun and give you stellar results.

Brenda will be here for 3 days. Friday and Saturday are a two day canvas embellishment class. Select a canvas from our stock and Brenda will work her magic selecting threads and stitches. The class is small so we will get to see what everyone is stitching and watch those canvases come to life in addition to our own pieces. Sunday is a one day version of the class. Select a small canvas and have a day's worth of fun.

I hope you can join us. It's sure to be a great time.

More on ANG's National Seminar

We believe in ANG and its goals. We all share the same love of needlepoint and the desire to learn more. We also realize that we all want to see what’s new and different at any local needlework store we can find.

We hope that if your schedule permits you will visit our shop and see what’s new and different here.

We are approximately 30 minutes from the host hotel. We have planned a shuttle to run between the hotel and the shop on the following days and times:

For a more detailed schedule of the exact times, please visit the news & events page of our website in a few weeks we will have a printable schedule ready for you then.

What will you find if you come visit?
We have hundreds of canvases in stock at all times, thousands of threads and millions of ideas just waiting to be unleashed! We love sharing and we love visiting.

In addition to our regular stock we will be featuring trunkshows from some of the top names in needlework.

Melissa Shirley Designs
Maggie & Co
Ewe & Eye
Elizabeth Turner Designs
Strictly Christmas
Associated Talents
Raymond Crawford
Orna Willis
And of course, myself, Ruth Schmuff

This is your chance to see the largest array of designs by these designers all in one place. (I get goosebumps just thinking about it!)

Since this is such a once in a lifetime experience for me to meet so many of you, I thought about what could make it even more special of a visit. As a stitcher, I would want a keepsake piece of needlework to stitch that would remind me of my trip. So, Drumroll please, we have an array of exclusive designs for you to remember your visit by. I won’t say exactly what they are but they have been designed just for you and me by the following designers:

Pamela Rishfield
Raymond Crawford
Orna Willis
And of course myself
(No, not every design has a crab on it :-) Don’t get me wrong, I love crabs, but even I have a limit to how many I want to stitch)

Additionally, Melissa Shirley will be launching a new design just in time for seminar. You will see it here first!

We hope you will come for a visit. We are in a very cute strip of stores. There is a country store right next door, a gift shop 2 doors down, a bunch of antique stores and even a knitting store. All right here in walking distance. There’s even a cafĂ© if you need to refuel during your shopping. Basic diner food.

Welcome to Baltimore, hon!

We’ll see you in August.

ANG National Seminar is coming to Baltimore!

I am so excited! ANG Seminar is coming to Baltimore this August. This means we may actually get to meet in person! I love meeting other stitchers and sharing ideas. There's so much fun stuff to learn.

We are working with many major designers to develop new designs exclusive only to our shop. This is the fun stuff.! New designs, many with stitch guides designed to remind you of your visit to Baltimore. Of course I am working on new exclusive designs too !

Even if it isn't an exclusive design there will be many new designs unveiled at our shop. Be the first to see them. How cool is that?

I'm working on shuttle schedules now. That should make everyone's life easier getting around town. We are a half hour from the seminar hotel. I'll keep you posted through this blog and my website about the specific details. Just know for now it's all in the works. We want this to be a fun and memorable trip for everyone.

See you soon.

We're Open!

The day came Saturday, we took the paper off the windows and we are now officially open! The store is gorgeous. I absolutely love it! It's bright and sunny and filled with color. The color and threads and texture are inspiring and empowering. You can do anything! You can stitch anything!

We have 90% of the threads in now with more coming every day. Lot's of canvases and accessories and of course more coming all the time. The goal is to get all of this on the web too, so that those of you who don't live close by can still see what we have.

We do hope that you will drop by if you are in the area. It's great meeting all the people that I have known only through the internet for years.

I hope you like the shop. It's very me! I've posted a few pictures of the shop and will post more later. This is just to tempt you to come visit.

It's So Cool!

We're almost there. Bedecked and Beadazzled is almost ready for prime time viewing. My vision of a needlepoint store is coming together! The fixtures are in. There's boxes of thread everywhere, but you can see what goes where and it looks so cool!

All of like threads are together, so there's an overdye section and a metallic section and a fuzzy section and ribbon and of course silk. The canvases have lots of special homes so that we can display them and tempt you. There's shelves for models.

Oh, and did I mention the walls are the most luscious over the top shade of green? It's called grape green and its bright and cheery.

It feels like home. We'll open the doors soon.

See you then.

It's coming along

It's been a couple of weeks since I posted and the store is really coming along! I hope you will all come visit. It's going to be unlike any other needlepoint store that I've seen. It will be me. It will be bright and sunny and filled with lots of color!

Thread display racks are being built and the canvas display boards will be here this week. Tables and chairs arrive the next week and then the sales counter. That's the last thing to come, but as soon as it's here and the electricians are finished we can open.

I will post pictures as soon as there is something to take a picture of, but for now all I will say is think slightly funky, slightly soho, slightly Paris. Sounds cool to me. :-) Thanks for your support, and again I look forward to meeting you all.

A Real Brick and Mortar Store

Okay, it's time for one of those sweeping life changing decisions. If you are reading this blog you probably already know I design needlepoint, which is sold in shops all over the country, and you probably also know I have an on-line store called Bedecked and Beadazzled.

Well, the time has come to take things to the next level. I am opening a real brick and mortar store! The opportunity presented itself a few months ago and its been a whirlwind ever since. This is something I always thought I would do later in life but everything fell into place sooner rather than later.

Almost everything. I wanted a space that was big enough to have classes. Had good parking, good lighting, was quaint. You know, we all have the same needlepoint store fantasy. I have spent the last several months looking for a retail space. It has taught me more than I ever wanted to know about commercial real estate. If you have a needlework store near you that is cute and roomy be thankful. Its really hard to find a space. Some centers won't take you because you are needlepoint and they don't understand thats a good thing. Other centers require you to be open 7 days a week 12 hours a day. Okay, it might be nice when we run out of a thread to run by the store at 9:30 while hubby is home with the kids but is that really practical? Oh and then there was the store where I needed to remove urinals. Not part of my ideal description of a needlepoint store.

I have finally found what I hope will be the perfect space for us. It is in Cockeysville Maryland in a little strip of stores. There are several antique stores nearby, a cute gift store and a diner. We have good parking in front and in back. Great lighting. I guess we'll take it. The contractors are there this week putting up a wall so that you don' t have to look at all the stuff that will live in our stock room. Then John, the carpet guy will install the carpet. Then I can hopefully move in.

We'll be open by late March, early April and do hope you will stop by. I'll post pictures and details here as more materialize. I can tell you the canvases have started to arrive. It's going to be a great adventure!
