Christmas Fairy Preview

Here she is, finally finished. The new Christmas Fairy stocking. You may recognize the fairy as she has been in the line for awhile. Thanks to the recomendation of a customer she is now available on a stocking! (Okay, sometimes I miss the obvious and its up to you guys to point it out.)

Christmas Magic as she is appropriately named is available painted on both 18ct and 13ct. Both come complete with a stitch guide. The stitch guide is a collaborative effort between myself and Brenda Hart. There are some really cool stitches in here that not only look amazing, but stitch fast and are fun to do!

The top of the stocking can be personalized with a name or trimmed in fur as you know I love to do.

This was the first time I used hot fix crystals on a canvas and I think I am in love. Once you the hang of picking them up which let me tell you is odd with the crystal applicator, its a lot of fun. Truly instant gratification. I keep picking more canvases that need bling. You can be assured that we will be carrying the crystals and the applicators in the store very soon.

Hope you like her.

River Silks

What a great class. Last Wednesday Jean and Paul Krynicki of River Silks came to the shop to teach a mini how to. What fun we had!

They started at the beginning, and taught us how to thread a needle, how to anchor your ribbon to the canvas for stitching and how to do all kinds of fun stitches. You really can stitch with as long of a piece of river silks ribbon a you want to. It doesn't run or snag or do anything else awful!

We have a few of their models in the store and they are more impressive in person than on the website. Flower Fish by john johansen (melissa shirley designs) is amazing.

There are also some landscapes that look so real in ribbons. Achieving the same depth in traditional stitching would require so much more effort.

Ribbons stitch fast and give great results. We have lots of the river silks samples kitted and ready to roll, so if you want to give it a try, nows the time.

WWBD?

What Would Brenda Do?

We have just finished another wonderful weekend of classes with Brenda Hart. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. She's amazing.

Each teacher has their own style and even when several teachers teach canvas embellishment they teach it differently. We see different things in a canvas and use different threads and stitches. I think the coolest thing would be to have the opportunity to take classes from all the talented ladies and men out there and learn from them all.

I'm fortunate in having Brenda as a friend. We have very similar styles. We both like a lighter coverage to the threads that allows the beautiful painting on the canvas to show through. We're not afraid to try something that might be a little unconventional.

I'll post photos of class pieces as different canvases are completed and return from the framer or the finisher.

Until Brenda returns in September I just need to say to myself WWBD? The answer will come to me and it will be gorgeous!
