It's starting to look magical!

Here we go - today was class day. Lesson #3 of Melissa Shirley's heart. It's starting to take shape. There was a lot of ground work to do before we could really start seeing things happen. Background, borders etc.

But now, I am quite pleased with it. The background of the heart is simply Basketweave in metallic.

The star of the show are the swirls that run through the abstract flowers on the heart. They are beads. I know, shocking! Here's what's special about the beads, they are a mix of 3 different finishes. I mixed different shades and colors and finishes of beads together so that optically I get a unique color. In this case I used 3 different golds. Each sparkles and reflects light differently. The sparkle then bounces from one to the next. Pretty cool. If you are going to try this, you also need to be okay with the fact that all beads are not created equal. Some colors of beads are rounder, some more rectangular, so when mixed they don't always sit as straight as if they were all the same. Again, I'm okay with this, it's much more organic this way.

Finally, the centers of the flowers were filled with either Basketweave or Turkey Work. The Turkey Work medallions are very cool and fun to touch.

One more class and we'll see what we've created.

Fun, fun, fun

Fun canvas, fun threads, fun stitches, fun finishing. Fun, Fun, Fun. Right now, I wouldn't change a thing. The size of the squares made it perfectly manageable. Just when you were bored with a stitch or a thread it was time to move on. This was a great Mystery Class.

I did love stitching this Raymond Crawford canvas and now it's back from the finisher. It's a happy piece all ready for next Christmas.

Others are finishing their canvases as frames or door hangers or mirrors. I'll post more finishing options as they return but for now, this is the completion of mine.

Back to beading the heart. OOOOH! Did I give you a hint about the next Melissa Shirley Mystery Class lesson? Shhhh, don't tell.

Happy Valentine's Day

What better way to spend a holiday than with good friends. Today was our 2nd Mystery Class for Melissa Shirley's Heart.

We're still building the foundation here so it's all very subtle but you can see things are starting to blossom.

Today we worked on the gold border. It's one of my favorite stitches - Basketweave Twill. It's a great stitch, moves quickly and requires no challenging compensation! Woo hoo!

Then there were the ovals... All the ovals are padded and stitched in Petite Frosty Rays. They shimmer with an inner metallic and are like little jewels around the border.

We're getting there, the foundation is laid. Now onto the focal point!

The snow, oh the snow!

What's a girl to do when it snows this much?

For a state that doesn't usually get snow we got a crazy amount of snow Friday into Saturday. 30+ inches!!!! What were the weather gods thinking.

The shop has been closed since Thursday night!

I've been working on the next lesson of the Heart Mystery Class. It's starting to look like something! I think you are really going to like it. Check back next Sunday to see what I've done.

I've also been packing crystals like a crazy person. In addition to the full line of 2mm round crystals we have started adding select colors in 4mm rounds and 3mm bicones and my favorite margaritas. Yes, I like margaritas (rocks, no salt) but I also like swarovski margaritas. These are the pretty little flower shaped crystals. The collection of sizes and colors in these is growing too. 6mm to 12mm in assorted flower colors.

Maybe the colorful flower colors of crystals will bring us Spring flowers.

Until then, we're digging out. Karl took lots of pictures including this one of me digging. It is an amazing amount of snow.

We're expecting more snow Tuesday night and I've heard rumors of the weekend being hit again. Geez!
