The Ark

Ok, now I really didn't need a painted canvas of an ark.  No kids, no grandkids, no nieces and nephews.  The cats aren't in to it.  But for some reason, I had to have this ark.  It doesn't even have the animals, so really, what was I thinking?

Perhaps it is the amazing colors, all lush and vibrant painted on 13ct.

Perhaps it is the fact that just about everything that comes from Colors of Praise's paintbrush is amazing.

Perhaps I just needed a gift for me.

It's in the pile of one day maybe canvases.....

If you would like an ark too, give us a call or click here to order.

Odds and Ends, Canvases and Threads

Happy Memorial Day weekend.

Hopefully everyone got some stitching time in today.  Lesson #2 of Aquamarine Mermaid, our current mystery class is ready to roll.  She's totally glam and sort of sultry.  I'll pack kits this week so we're ready for Sunday's class.

I've been working on the Row of Ladies, Our Mystery with A Twist, I know you thought I forgot about the girls and their party.  Well, I didn't.  The fifth lady is complete!  Guides are written, most of the threads and beads are here and ready.  I just need my Kreinik order and then she can show off her dress for the party!

The Christmas Mystery with a Twist is coming along too.  Lot's of fun ideas for this one too.

So, since I can't share pictures of any of these projects yet I thought I would show pictures of a couple of Diane Dirks newest canvases that we pulled recently.

Boston is a great summer fun, baseball canvas if you love Boston or the Red Sox.  (OK, that's as much sports talk as I can muster.)

Handpainted on 13ct we were able to pull really fun threads and textures for this canvas.  Check out the mother of pearl stars for the flag square.  That's my favorite part.

Diane also designed this amazing take out purse.  You stitch and bead and crystal the painted parts, we send it off to the finisher and she folds it up to make your very own take out purse/evening bag.  It's big enough to hold your cellphone, a lipstick and a credit card.  Perfect!  We selected light stitches for the blue areas and lots of beads and crystals for the amazing patterns.

Have a great day tomorrow, try to find a few moments to stitch something fun and colorful.  See you soon.

My Shingle Is Hung

Kinda fun to say that.  Especially when when the shingle says "Enabler's Anonymous"

I am fortunate to be one of the founding members of Enabler's Anonymous.  This is an honorary group created originally by two friends on the West Coast to celebrate enabling and supporting one another.  (You can read the entire story here.)  It's not just about enabling one another in spending our hard earned dollars.

It's enabling creativity and confidence in stitching and life.  I am proud to call myself an Enabler.

Yesterday I hung my framed Enablers Anonymous canvas.  How cool is this?  You know I love these lucite frames andI couldn't resist the black and white dots.  Imagine the frame on a lime green wall outside my office.

It makes me smile and reminds me to challenge myself and you with fun new ideas.

Happy Friday!

Fuzzy, Colorful, Sparkly Cresent Owl

You know what happens when we start pulling threads for a canvas.  The wheels start turning and the ideas start popping.

This is the latest canvas to have a stitchguide written for it and wait until you see the stitches.  It is the crescent owl by Sandra Vargas.

The threads are yummy with all sorts of textures.  The owl has to be fuzzy, no?

The background will be mostly open so that all the cool shadows will show through.

The crescent moon is dotted with Rhodes Stitches and beads.

My favorite thing is the clouds.  I love the curly cues in the clouds.  They will be couched Memory Thread.  But wait, the color changes from green to blue mid curl.  Oh no!  What's a girl to do?  We'll just have to be creative and custom make some memory thread.  Pretty cool.

You can order the canvas and guide here.  Or if you would like to see more of sandra's designs, click here.

New Friends and Old

I love my life.  Okay, somedays I complain about this or that, but I really am quite happy.  I have the best friends, the best job and I'm lucky to be able to create and hang with the ever talented ones.

This weekend was one of those special weekends where we had a teacher come to the shop for fun and frivolity.  Not only did our  regulars come to class but we had lots of new students and have made great new friends.  We hope you all will come back often!

Julia Snyder was the leader of our Magical Mystery Tour this weekend.  Julia works with each student to select threads and stitches for a canvas of their choosing.  Part of the fun of the class is the variety of styles of canvases selected.  If you watch what she does with other canvases you come home with fresh new ideas for canvases in your stash.

Barbara selected a Mindy canvas. Julia has her stitching Diamond Rhodes stitches in each of the diamonds so that they look quilted and pop up.  They fit perfectly and look great!

JoAnn brought the Table Manners canvas from Maggie.  This is an oldie but a goodie.  It has lots of detail.  Unfortunately there are so many details that not a lot of stitching got done :-)  I bet she'll share with us when more is complete.

Rhonda thinks she is a relative newbie to needlepoint but I think she's been stitching in her sleep for years!  She's doing a beautiful job on this Melissa Shirley butterfly.  It's going to look stunning framed in her home.

Check out the antennae!  Julia has the best ideas.  I do wonder what she will do if Arctic Rays ever vanishes from the market. :-)

Patty is working on the Zecca Owls which will be sooooo much fun.  Ribbon feathers and fuzzy feathers, crystals and more.  Sooooo cute.

Sue started this dog stocking topper.  I love Strictly Christmas.  She packs so many fun details in to a canvas but doesn't make it impossible to put stitches in.

Check out the tree and the candle and the garland!  The cuff is almost finished!

We stitched and ate our way through two fun filled days.  Patty surprised us by bringing cake for dessert and it was amazing.  It's Butter Cake.  So, yes, you feel like you are just attaching sticks of butter to your thighs but it is worth every calorie.  California Pizza Kitchen has a version on their menu and it's my favorite dessert.  Not sure how Patty knew that, but she worked bakery magic for me.

All in all it was a fun weekend.  Thanks for coming.  We can't wait to see you all again soon.

P.S.  For those who will get this, the dots are mostly gone!

Preakness! A Maryland Tradition

Tomorrow is the 138th Annual Preakness Stakes.  Held on the third Saturday in May at Pimlico Race Course this is the kind of event that makes me want to wear a big wonderful hat, heels and a great dress.  It's a day for tradition.

OK, so this is an image in my mind only.  Not really a hat kind of girl.  Some people are, but other than the occasional witch hat, I don't really do hats.  It's still fun to look at the pictures.

In honor of the Preakness I thought I would share some of our Maryland Ornaments!

Black Eyed Susan

 Maryland Flag

Maryland Skipjack

and of course my favorite, the Baltimore Crab.

All are available complete with stitchguide and make make great summer travel projects.  Perfect for remembering a special trip or to give to a grad when they move out on their own.

See all the ornaments online here.

Blue Moon

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold

Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart

This was originally a Frank Sinatra song but now it applies perfectly to our next Mystery Class at Bedecked and Beadazzled.

This guy appeared on the scene and stole my heart!  I'm already dreaming stitches, threads and embellishments for him!

He is 11.25 x 11.5", beautifully painted on 18ct mono. Our in shop classes will be July 14, August 4 and 25th and September 8.  We love our long distance stitchers too so we are happy to send you kits for each class.  If you aren't local, you can still have lots of fun as you can join in the virtual chats on!

All of the details are on the website here.  To sign up, give us a call at 410.296.0405 and we'll take it from there.

Hope to see you in class.

National Bastet Day

I am officially declaring today as Bastet Day!  Let's make it a National Holiday.

The last stitch just went in my canvas and I am delighted.  Off to the framer she goes.

She's a perfectly glamorous feline all beaded and bedecked!

If you haven't finished stitching your Bastet, today's the day to stitch away.

We have more canvases arriving soon, so if you would like to stitch Bastet call us at 410.296.0405 to order yours.

Happy Friday!

It's all about the 4th of July

I don't know about you, but my 4th of July decor is sorely lacking.  Now, I'm really not sure how much I would decorate for the 4th but these new Firecrackers from Kelly Clark may be just the thing to get me to decorate.

The canvases are available as a club, so sign up to receive one per month complete with stitchguides by Palma.  Yes, the one, the only Palma.  The same Palma that sometimes comes here for class and has fingers that fly faster when stitching than anyone I know.

Kelly and Palma have teamed up to create super cute 4th of July Firecrackers that will stitch in no time. You can disply them as shown on the USA base or consider popping them in a flower arrangement or your potted plants.

As our special holiday gift to you, the 9th cracker in the series will be sent to you at half price!

For all the details on the club, click here.

Come Swim with a Mermaid

You know you want to.  How cool would it be to swim with a mermaid?

Today we started our journey with the first lesson of the Aquamarine Mermaid Mystery Class.  We lightly stitched her flesh and we created a beautiful sparkling sea for her to live in.

The sea is made from circles mimicking the pattern on her tail and creating bubbles floating to the surface.  Each circle has a magical sequin in the center!  You can stitch the background continuously creating an all over pattern, randomly for motion or a little of both as I did.

I know you are awaiting the unveiling of the goodies that go with the class.  This is a party.  We need swag!
The magnet that each student receives as a gift is this cute little fishy.  Love him!

Wait until you see the limited edition snap trays.  These are available to class participants only and only during the class.  The seahorse has  a crystal eye!  Too fun!

We have fishy fobs in 2 colors.  Lavender and Pink $44 each.  Their little tails move!

And we have adorable summery fobs made with lampwork fish and seahorses perfect for all your summer stitching.  These are $36 each.

We are waiting for more canvases to arrive in a week and a half so if you would like to join us, give us a call and we'll sign you up!  You'll have plenty of time to catch up as the second class is not until June 2nd!
