The Invasion!

What happens when one person stitches fifty-one 2.5" circles of halloween fun and five 4" circles.

An invasion happens, that's what!

This is only one each of the different small spider designs.
Ann stitched multiples of each! Each leg (sorry, I couldn't resist) of her family received its own instant Halloween display.

The family that lives at the beach received this group
with the giant spider ready to join them in the sand.

Here is the devil spider and his minions.

The queen and her court.
 A traditional trick or treater.

And finally a witch with a wart on her nose.

How fun is this?  Who could choose?
These are AT canvases finished as spiders to sit in spider leg cupcake holders.
So, simple, so clever, so cool.

Happy Halloween!

Tropical Jazz

What a fun weekend we had.  We invited Terry Dryden to teach her counted canvas project Tropical Jazz and it was a wonderful, relaxing class.

Fun stitches and great threads bring this design to life.

Terry traveled all day to bring her design to us and she still lots perky.  17 hours, I wouldn't be this perky.

One of the wonderfully fun things that we did in the class was add color to our canvas with markers.  Easy and fun way to add just a bit of color to a background.  Build the color up in thin layers just like watercolors.

We all used the same colors and markers but everyone colors so differently.

And then we painted beads to be added to our canvases later.  Beautiful metallic colors were added to resin beads.

Everyone worked hard in class.  We were a quiet bunch stitching away, having a good time.

Terry brought extra threads.  Threads this thread junkie hadn't seen before. Oh no, gotta go rearrange the store to make room for new stuff.  There were some very pretty threads.

And of course on the last day Terry signed our autograph board.  A tradition for teachers the first time they come to visit.

Thanks again, Terry.  We had a great time and look forward to seeing you again.

The Silly Witch is Here!

I have been meaning to write up a guide for this little girl for such a long time and finally, just in time for Halloween she is complete!

She's about 8.5" tall on 18ct.  She would make a fun flat back ornament to stand on an easel or a wonderful inset into a pillow.

Now to get her stitched!  Happy Halloween week everyone.

Texas sized fun!

Last weekend we had Texas Sized Fun at Bedecked and Beadazzled!  There's just no other way to describe it.

Julia Snyder was here from Texas, teaching one of her fun embellishment classes and the oh so fun Carol Eix (of snap tray fame) and also from Texas was here with her daughter, Caroline, soaking up all the knowledge.

Carol chose to work on this petite Charley Harper canvas.  Julia had ideas for all the dogs, cats and bunnies.  They are going to be sooo cute.  Texas girls need Texas sized canvases, ya know.

You may remember Sue was working on the Tapestry Fair nativity series in the last class.  Now the Baby Jesus has been stitch guided.  These are going to be great when finished.

Pat loves her coffee so this super cute Maggie is perfect for her.  Check out the black and white swirled buttons for flowers. Love them!

Julia loves to demonstrate stitches to make certain you are clear on how to do them. Linda is paying close attention.

Check this out, a floral without ribbons.  Lots of wonderful textures are coming together.

Saturday morning, everyone was working hard!

Lots of beady textures on this canvas from Unique NZ Designs.  Carole is going to have so much fun with this one!

Shy Violet by Machelle Sommerville is a darling canvas that is going to stitch up quickly thanks to Raised Close Herringbone on the leaves and big bold Jessicas on the buds.

Caroline was bringing this skeleton dancer back to life.  Check out the texture on the basket and her pretty lacy blouse.

Don't you just wonder what they were saying?  Had to be a Texas sized joke!

See ya'll soon.  xo, ruth

Why Fit In?

I can finally share this canvas.  I’ve been dying to show it to you.  Does it not scream me?
You know I love everything Zecca and when I saw this piece I just knew, I had to stitch it.

This will be our next Mystery with a Twist.  The Row of Ladies by Lee is safely at the framer, and we have the Melissa Shirley Christmas Village currently in the queue but we need a non holiday mystery to entertain us.  How could I resist this girl with her long eyelashes?

Mysteries with a Twist are a little different than our regular mystery classes.

There are no in-person classes.  Everyone gets everything shipped.  Lessons go out at approximately 3 month intervals.  This is a much slower pace than our regular mysteries.

We will have optional matching snap and bead trays, coordinating magnets and scissor fobs!  Just too much cool stuff!  This adds to the fun of stitching the piece.

The cost for the class is the cost of the canvas $305 plus $15 per lesson and the price of the threads, beads, crystals etc for that lesson.

Canvas design area is 14 x 18 handpainted on 18ct.  You will need 18 x 22 stretcher bars.

If you would like to join us on this stitching adventure, call us at 410.296.0405 to reserve your canvas and sign up.  The fun will begin in late December/early January.

I hope you love this canvas as much as I do.

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!

We're all starting to think Christmas and the sudden flurry of stockings that we have kitted up and sent out makes me think you are thinking Christmas too.

Here's some of our recent guides.  Just look at all the yummy threads!

Green Santa from Melissa Shirley

Woodland Stocking from Rebecca Wood

Say Cheese Stocking from Rebecca Wood.

Christmas will be so much more magical when these stockings are hung.  Have fun stitching!

Waving from Bedecked and Beadazzled

Here he is, Boo by Hal Mayforth waving happily.  :-)

Isn't he too cute?

Today was lesson 2 of our Halloween Mystery Class. Boo has a personality now.  His eyes are sparkling and glow in the dark.  He has all of his outlines and best of all his little hands rise off the canvas waving at you.  Thanks to Memory Thread all kinds of coolness is now possible!

Three weeks until the final class.  That gives me lots of time to make him sparkly and sassy.  Can a ghost be sassy? :-)

Whatever I do he will be fun to see and to stitch.  It's not too late to join us.

Stay tuned for more fun news.  Wink.  Wink.  Nudge. Nudge.

In the City with Friends

A few weeks ago my dear friend Sheena stopped by for a little weekend visit.  Sheena is the creative force behind Sheena's Sweet Stitches.  We met through the shop several years ago and just hit it off.  She writes stitchguides for some of my pieces and they are always so fun to stitch.

We seem to share the same sense of the unusual when it comes to design and color and nail polish.

So what are two creative types to do for a day in a needlepoint store but play with canvases and redecorate the store.

One of the canvases we collaborated on was this one by Maggie.  It has so many possibilities!  We didn't write a full stitchguide but we did write a lot of notes as to what we would do where and we had a great time.  There was a great sense of energy on a rainy day in the shop as we bounced ideas and threads off of each other.

We need to do this again soon!

Until then, if you are intrigued by this canvas give us a call and we'll kit it up for you with our notes and ideas.

Now the party can finally begin

You have all waited so patiently for the last girl to join the row of ladies.  First you waited for me to finish her and then we had to wait for threads.  So much drama, so much waiting.

Finally she has joined the ranks at the party!

This was our first Mystery with a Twist.  One canvas stitched in parts over an extended period of time.  Lessons shipped over a 2 year period.

I've been waiting for this too.  I really wanted to show our girl off.  She's my favorite.  Oh heck, they are all my favorites :-)

I really loved the flowers in her hair.

And the fun stitches in her dress.

Here's all 6 of the girls at the party. They are currently off having a spa day at the framer.  They will be back soon.

Now that we are at the end of this Mystery it's time to focus on the Christmas Mystery with a Twist and start a new non-seasonal mystery with a twist.  Or maybe two.   :-)

Announcements to follow when the time is right.

Sakura by Sandra Vargas

Sandra Vargas is one of our newer artists.  We loved her owls and now she has fabulous witches and this beautiful geisha to join the line.

We pulled threads and stitches for Sakura the other day and she is going to be even more beautiful stitched.  Canvas is now complete with stitchguide.

You can see her entire line here.
