Foxes are the new Owl

I'm seeing a lot of woodland creatures these days.  So cute.  So fun.

We just got in a fox from Birds of a Feather.  Can you say Hide and Seek?

Check out these brand new EyeCandy Seasonal foxes.  At only 5.5x 7.5 they stitch pretty quick and they are just too cute.

Who wouldn't want a fox snap tray?  Particularly, one this cute.  He's a formal fox.

Happy, Friday!

A Playful Squirrel by Sandra Vargas

This little guy is so cute and happy.  He had to be a Mystery Class.

Three short lessons starting July 27th either in person or long distance.

The design size is small 10.5 x 5 hand painted on 18ct mono.  You know we will pack lots of fun and fancy into this design!

You can sign up here, or call us at 410.296.0405 to reserve your spot.

And if you think he is cute, just wait until you see the matching magnet that FobFriends created for us.  Super cute!

If you are new to our Mystery Classes, here's the deal...

Mystery classes are one of the most fun things in the shop! You sign up knowing only what the canvas is that we will be stitching. How we are stitching it is the mystery. Each time you come to class (or we mail you your next kit) another section of the mystery is unveiled.

Now, you also know that if I am teaching it, it's going to have a bit of bling. You also know I like to play with different threads and different stitches.

We meet from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday afternoons.

Class cost is the price of the canvas plus $15 per lesson and the threads necessary for that lesson. It's lots of fun. I hope you will join us.

Alice in Wonderland as only Sandra Vargas could do it!

I love Sandra Vargas' style of painting.  Her characters are sweet and funky and fresh.  There's something fun and unexpected with each one.

Here's the Tea Party  complete with Alice, Lady Hatter and the Queen.

Love the full size Queen of Hearts!

and of course because we are Baltimorean's we needed to add Poe to the line.

There's more on the website.  Just click here.

The shop is closed for the next few days but you can always order online.

See you soon.

Too Stinking Cute

Sometimes life is a bit of an evolution.

First there were Stitches CDs

Then there were books from the cds.

Then there were apps from the cds.

Now there are smaller books!  also from the cds......

.... and they are too stinking cute!  They are 5.5" x 8.5" so exactly half the size of the original books.  Just as many pages, they still have big full size diagrams.  They are just cuter now.

You can thank Meredith Willet for this.  She had to have them smaller.  She asked, nicely and she asked again, and again.  She wouldn't budge, so I made them for you.  Who am I to say no?

Books are being printed.  You can pre-order now.  They will ship in 2 weeks.

10% off for anyone ordering all 3 books!*

Here's the link to the page on the website.

* 10% discount applies to retail orders only placed by 6/7/14.

So Much Fun..... I want to do it again!

Last weekend was our very first designer retreat.  It will not be our last.  We had so much fun!

It was very relaxed, we got a lot of stitching done and basically just played for a few days in the company of very good friends.  I am honored you all came and so glad you did!

Karen Hennessey of Zecca fame came for the weekend.  She is charming and delightful and oh so talented.  We love her a lot.  She stitched too!  Following along and going with the flow of all my crazy ideas.  Here she is comparing notes with Julie.  They were both very patient with the picture taking elves.

Karen designed a canvas for us that I in turn stitch-guided.  This is sort of a different style for zecca.  The palette is so much softer than what we expect.

There's lots of fun areas to stitch and then I added a few more twists and turns.

Doesn't everyone look like they are working hard?

Kathy and Kathy got so much stitching done!

My style of stitching is a little different than most.  I know that all the details are in the stitch guide, so I go over the most important things.  That gives you more time to stitch and so much less spaghetti hanging from your canvas when the class is done.

We learned how to make antennae for butterflies and how to stitch beautiful crescents without relying on charts and counting.  We used glue sticks and circle templates and vanishing markers.  Oh yes, and of course we needed fishing line for stitching.

You know I live for finding special things to embellish a canvas and make it even more magical.  For this piece the magic came in the form of two little boxes of vintage Swarovski crystal.  Karen found the treasures in her kit.

I think she likes them.  :-)

Here's what the canvas is morphing in to.  Mine is almost finished.  Just one more day of stitching and I could be done!  Woo Hoo!  I embellished with crystals and beads and fun threads and more patterns. Yes, I added more pattern to what Karen already designed and when she saw it, she said "I would totally do that!"

The butterflies have bodies made by Zecca and fabulous wired antennae.

Before you get excited that I did this much basket weave, let me say, I came to class with the leaf almost half done.  I was done.  Elves snuck into my chair when I was out of the room and finished it up for me.  Yay, girls!  Love you!

Each little vignette is more fun than the last.  Once you get the background and borders done it moves right along.

I planned a little Saturday afternoon surprise.  Karen brought jewelry to share and sell.  We were a tad obsessed.  It's so pretty and so Zecca.

So we all bought a piece or two :-)

And of course we had to have Karen sign the magic board!  So fun!

Thank you Karen for coming to play.  We couldn't have asked for a better first retreat.  Thank you ladies for trusting my vision of this piece and following along on this adventure.

We've already asked Karen to come again.   Hope she says yes and you can join us.

The Store with the Lime Green Walls

Here we are, ready to start our very first retreat!  So exciting.

This is going to be an adventure.  It's not a formal class.  Yes, there is a plan but it's sort of loose.

We invited Karen Hennessy the creative genius to come for the weekend.  She designed a fun new piece just for us.

I had the fun of stitchguiding it.

The ladies who have signed up, are in for 2 fun filled days of stitching and relaxing and shopping and creating all within the store with the lime green walls.

We have a fun surprise, we embellished the classroom with a light up sign.  Lime green walls needed to be kicked up a notch don't you think?

The kits are packed and ready to be unveiled.

Don't you just want to know what's in them?  These are the class kits.  There are so many fun threads and supplies in these kits.  Love them!  I'll tell you a secret. I embellished the canvas with touches of vintage swarovski crystal.  OOOH!  These are very limited edition kits.  I can make just a few more kits with the crystals.  When they are gone, they are gone.  You will still be able to get the canvas, guide and kit but no more crystals.  The crystals will be replaced with beads.  If you are interested, the complete kit with everything as shown below (except snap tray and magnets) is $586.00.  Give us a call to reserve yours now.

Ok, we're about to start.  I'll post more pictures after the class is over so you can see what this gem evolves into.

Wish you were here.

Leaves are Falling!

The second lesson of Why Fit In, the one and only Zecca adorable orange bird, has shipped!

This is a Mystery with a Twist so the lessons are approximately 3 months apart.  Lots of time to comfortably keep up.  Or not.  Your call.  :-)

I think she is just so darn cute that you will want to stitch her all day long.

For this lesson, we focused on the background.  I like to finish my backgrounds early on so that I can easily count across unstitched areas and not have to guess my way through stitched patterns.

I created a pattern of cascading leaves to fill my background.  I had a great time stitching it.  Because I realize that not everyone has my same level of stitching mojo I have included two other options in the instructions.  Each one has a little less compensating drama.

We also stitched the branch in this lesson and give our girl legs and toes to hold on to the branch.

The next lesson is in 3 months. If you haven't joined us on this adventure and would like to, you can sign up here or give us a call at 410.296.0405.  We'll do the rest.

This is definitely one of my most fun stitching projects ever!
