Fuzzy, Fluffy and Everything In Between

I love needle felting!  It's quick, it makes cute furry animals, it's good for taking out any lingering hostility and it gives great results.  What's not to love?

Ok, I don't love the needle because it is really really going to hurt if I stick it in my finger.  But if I remember to keep my hand out of the way, that won't happen, right?

Knowing how well needle felting works, I decided that was the answer for the Playful Squirrel's body.  I really didn't want to basket weave him. Lesson one of our mystery class was all about needle felting

Check out the results.

There are a few rules for needle felting that should be honored.

1. Felt the dark color first, then the light, then the in between.

2. Use an up and down motion with your felting needle.  The moment your needle changes to an angle you will snap your needle.  Uggh.

3. Use only the tiniest wisp of roving at a time on your canvas.  I do mean tiny.

That's it, all the rules.

We tent stitched his muzzle and stitched his tummy in Interlocking Gobelin.

So many levels of fluffiness on this little guy.  Love him already.

Lesson two of the Playful Squirrel is August 10th.  Only two weeks from now.  You can still join us and easily catch up.  Give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order here.

There are also fun add ons to the project.  We like our go-withs.  :-) Carol Eix made us the cutest snap trays.  You just have to giggle when you see them.  Nuts, nuts, nuts.........

I love the scissor fob for this class.  Super cute.

If you are in the class you get the class magnet but look what else we have, a squirrel magnet by Elizabeth Turner collection.  How cute is he?

Hope you had a happy, fluffy weekend.

The Brilliance of Bargello

We were lucky to have Julia Snyder at the shop this weekend teaching her version of Bargello.  What fun we had!

Everyone picked their own canvas from the And More line.  Great sayings, great color!  Some even had custom sayings painted.

Once we started Julia sent everyone out into the wilds of the shop to select threads.  You have 2 colors of stripes, pick 4 different threads for each stripe but keep them parallel. If you use Floche for one color, select Floche for the other color.

Everyone could pick a different bargello pattern.

You could flip it.

You could continue it across the entire piece, changing colors as necessary.

You could do different patterns in each section.

You could even, are you ready for this?..... skip rows throughout your pattern. Pretty cool!

Here's the start of some of the canvases.

Julia's iBargello book has lots of fun patterns in it just waiting to be stitched.

And as a little surprise, Carol brought Polly to class to show us her leaves.  She added two more than I did.  Love it!!!

That's the magic of a two lesson mystery class and a week off from work.  She's finished!

Holly has a Beau

You probably guessed that if Sandy Arthur was stitch guiding Harlequin Holly that she must also be stitch guiding her Beau Hare-y.

He's equally amazing.

The face and the cardinal come to life with just a few well placed stitches.  Check out those eyelashes.

A few more curls are stitched in this background, but it's still mostly empty and looks fabulous.

The show-stopper for Hare-y is his jacket.  The stitch is perfect!

Hare-y would love to live with you, he's the perfect gentleman.  Give us a call or order online and we'll send him right out.

A Few Well-Placed Stitches

Sandy Arthur has worked her magic again!  She has stitch-guided the Fab Funky Rabbit in the beautiful harlequin dress!  It's stunning.
Check out the face.  It totally comes alive thanks to just a few well-placed stitches.

And again, a few well placed stitches on the background and poof! The background is complete.

Her dress is gorgeous, and those stockings!  Ooh, la la!

If you would like her to come live with you, give us a call or order online here.

Polly Takes Flight!

Two classes and a completed canvas.  Woo Hoo!  That's my kinda project.

I love the colors and the graphics of our parrot designed by Eleanor Grosch.

The background color has just a few tone on tone leaves and stripes so that we don't take away from the beautiful color.

Today we stitched Polly herself. She is pretty and sparkly but still has all the graphic quality that drew me to her in the first place.  I love the ring of beads on her wing.  I know, a real bird wouldn't have that, but Polly is my bird and that means she can have bling!

Fun threads, fun stitches, perfect for the start of summer.  And she's complete!  Wish I could say that about a few other canvases :-)

We are happy to kit her complete if you resisted temptation until now.

In two short weeks we start the Playful Squirrel by Sandra Vargas.  I have surprises planned for that one.

What? Another Stitchguide?

Yes, it's true.

We now have a stitch guide for Kimberly Smith's Dream Fragment.

While not as elaborate as her Flying Jewels it still has a few tricks up its sleeve :-)

Fun threads, fun stitches.  One or two ta dah! moments.  A fun stitch for lazy summer days.

If you'd like to have us send you a kit, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order here.

As only Kimberly could say.... Fini!

We've been keeping this project under wraps for a very long time.

The latest masterwork from Kimberly Smith.

I'm totally smitten with it.  Gorgeous colors!  Great stitches.  And check out these dragonfly wings.... Super cool copper mesh.

And the borders!!  Oh my!  Only Kimberly can design borders like this.  Truly, this is part of her magic.  The math, the twists, the turns the fun!

You can order your canvas and supplies online here, or give us a call at 410.296.0405!  Thread kits are being made, so plan on about 2-3 weeks for delivery.

If this doesn't brighten a Wednesday, nothing will.  :-)

Do you have plans for October 25 & 26?

Mark your calendars.

Laura Taylor will be coming to teach for us!  She is the author of many of the Melissa Shirley Designs stitchguides;  you know how fun they are!

This is going to be an event full of new stitches and new techniques.  Laura is delightful and  certain to become a favorite teacher.  We are so excited she is teaching for us. The canvas we will be stitching is a new design of mine, stitchpainted on 18ct and is 10” x 10”.  Not too big.

Classes will be 11-5 Saturday and Sunday.  Cost for the two-day class is $300 plus kit fee.  Lunch and dessert will be provided.  A $300 deposit is required to secure your spot in the class.  Registration will close at the end of August to ensure canvases and supplies are here in time for class.

Give us a call to sign up!  410.296.0405

Have a Happy 4th of July

Here's wishing you and yours a safe and sparkling 4th of July.

Love these Kelly Clark firecrackers stitched by Jennie and finished by my favorite finishing elves.  Great job ladies.

These are just a few of the bases our finishers have and can turn into beautiful displays for your firecrackers.

We are closed today, July 4th, but will be open Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone Hungry?

Brenda Hart was here a week or so ago and our dear friend Palma came to class.

It just wouldn't be the same if Palma didn't stitch on a collage and if she didn't bring us one to see finished.

Palma is a self confessed Collage-aholic!  And we wouldn't have it any other way.

Between her ideas, and Brenda's - magic happens!

This is the Lani Gourmet Collage. Outstanding job!
