Baltimore's Best Week

This is my favorite week in the year!  I'd prefer it not be a mere 14 degrees that will feel well below zero with the wind chill but seriously what can I do about that?  It could be the dead of summer, 90 plus degrees and 100% humidity.  I'd rather have the cold.

This is the week that the best of the best of Contemporary American Craft comes to Baltimore.  It's one of the things that i love most about Baltimore.  A reason to never leave.

It’s a craft show like no other! A three-day celebration of all things handmade, where more than 650 top contemporary jewelry, clothing, furniture, and home d├ęcor artists from across the country gather under one roof. It’s your chance to touch, feel, and explore high-quality American craft and meet the makers behind the fabulous work. This is the American Craft Council’s flagship show – a must-attend for craft lovers.

I love fine crafts.  I love the diversity, the color, the energy.  I love watching favorite artists grow and evolve.

I've been going to this show since the mid 80's, only missed a few years here and there.  I worked for a craft gallery in the mid 80's and met so many wonderful artists.

Every year I go to the show and come back inspired and yet somewhat frustrated.  I want to push my art further from craft to art.  The other artists inspire me.  I strive to incorporate more techniques and styles.

I was at the show yesterday looking for wonderful gifts for the Honey Bees.  I turned a corner and saw the sign of a name I knew from my past.  OMG, I haven't seen her for over 10 years.  She hasn't changed.  Time evaporated.  We started planning and yes, it involves you!  I ordered her wonderful art for our HoneyBees in 2016.  Just saying... you will love the new honeybee surprise.

So yes, my worlds collide.  The past, with the present, craft and needlepoint.  So much to create.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm so envious, would even brave the cold temps to have been at this show!

You are so lucky to be able to attend this show every year. My husband gave me a trip for Christmas one year and we had a blast! Say hello to Sarah Graham (metalsmith) from Walter and Suzanne.

Love your work.
