La Sirena

We started a new mystery class, Lulu's La Sirena, at the shop today!  I love the mystery classes.  They are fun and keep me focused on one project. (Or 4 depending upon how you count.)

Today's class was quiet and laid back.  Lulu Mypinkturtle's beautiful mermaid is already coming to life.  We stitched her face which gives her so much personality.

Her hair is flowing strands of Bouclé.

The background is a fun riff on Bargello Swirls that creates wonderful waves flowing through the sea.  If you look closely you will see that half of each swirl is worked in Petite Silk Lamé Braid and the other half is the second color of our new Color Dreams over dyed Floche.  I'm having fun with this new line of threads!

There are certain traditions that signify the start of any Mystery Class at Bedecked and Beadazzled.

There is the limited edition snap tray from Carol Eix.  This one is super cool with the little pink trim. Love, love, love it.  Snap trays are only available to those stitching the mystery.

There's also the fun scissor fob designed for the class.  The skeleton fish made everyone smile today.

More canvases will be arriving in a few weeks.  If you would like to join the party, give us a call at 410.296.0405 and we'll do the rest.

Now, if I still have your attention, I have a question.

I'm planning next year's mystery classes.  Traditionally I do several non seasonal followed by a Fall-Halloween and a Winter canvas.  What do you prefer?  Should I stick with that format or do you prefer all non seasonal.  There are so many great canvases;  I want to stitch them all!

Leave me your comments as to you preference and I'll take it from there.

See you soon.

Ooh La La The Dog Walker Got a Makeover

Sometimes you just have to change up the finishing.

Not that I needed another framed piece in my life but the Dog Walker as a pillow just wasn't doing it for me.  It was cute and I loved the fabric but it just wasn't funky enough and didn't have the zippity do dah that I wanted.

I really really love the Kaffe Fassett ribbon with this piece and wanted more of it.  Thanks to a wonderful framer, we stripped the pillow apart, reused the parts I loved, added more ribbon and a sassy bow and now the Dog Walker is perfect.

She had a makeover!

I love her.

If you would like to stitch your own sassy little pup, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order her online here.  We'll kit her up and send her your way.

Brenda Weekend

The one and only Brenda Hart was here this weekend working her magic for a group of fun ladies and canvases.

They were a very relaxed group,

a silly group,

 but a studious group.

They obviously needed lots of fortification. Hard to believe there were only 4 ladies at this table.

Two of the ladies were stitching Diane Dirks' Just Do It.  It's going to be amazing when its finished!  So many ideas in this piece that no one other than Brenda could ever have thought of.  I really want to see this one finished.

Check out this pig!  Brenda has her stitching flowers all over it.   It's turning out so cute.

And this moose!  He has such an attitude.  I'm not sure quite how to describe it but it's an attitude alright.    Sprat's Heads make the trees in the background.  Very cool idea.

This was a favorite canvas of everyone.  I love the pattern that Brenda added to Santa's coat.

The palm tree is masterfully stitched.  Fly stitch was the perfect choice for these palm fronds.

From all of us at Bedecked and Beadazzled, wish you were here!  Maybe you can join us next time?  Brenda will return September 18-20, 2015

P.S.  Monte says Woof!

The plan came together

I do love it when a plan comes together.  Yesterday was the last day of the Sitting Pretty Mystery Class.  We had background to stitch, the fishbowl and the tassels.

The most exciting part for me was the background.  I designed a new stitch which was a bit of a challenge but looks oh so pretty and I was able to launch a brand new thread that I am manufacturing!  Woo Hoo!  We all love a new thread, right?

Before you get too excited.  This is so new that I have one color so far.  I hope to have an assortment of colors by Fall but manufacturing is manufacturing and there are always twists and turns.

I am overdying Floche!  You know I love Floche and I love overdyes.  So what better match.  It's yummy to stitch with and the colors dye beautifully.  More about the thread soon when I have more colors to share.  This is just a little preview to my wonderful stitching friends who allow me to share my love of stitching with them through the Mystery Classes.

Here's our new background Darning Pattern.  It is worked in two directions on the diagonal.  Now, you know why we didn't do the background first. I was waiting for the dye to set :-) Because this stitch is worked entirely on the diagonal I did give you a second choice for the background.  You may not love counting as much as I do.  Who really does love counting and compensating as much as I do?

This is a two-way Darning Pattern so you stitch all the diagonals in one direction first and then stitch the other direction.  Darning Patterns are great fun in that they are really just weaving.  Over 2 threads, under 1 thread, over 2 threads, under 1 thread and so on.

There is one important thing to think about when working a darning pattern.  The threads on the back of the canvas will show through and are important to the design.  They create shadows and tones that we want to see from the front.  So, to have the prettiest finished piece it is important that you finish every row.  As you are working you will find you finish a row and you are two canvas threads from the end and you want to turn around and head in the other direction.  Don't do it yet!  Continue out into the border, take another stitch and then turn around and stitch in the opposite direction. This continues the shadows behind the piece all the way to the edge keeping everything consistent.

Our fishbowl is finished.  I did a fishbowl last year on the Bohemian Beauty canvas so we needed a different choice this time.  The entire bowl is simply stitched in a Long Stitch pattern of accentuate.  It shimmers like water behind glass and it's oh so easy.

Last but not least were the tassels.  Fun and easy to make with big big impact!

We have more canvases arriving this week so if you would like to stitch your own kitty, give us a call or order online.  We'll pack it and send it winging its way to you.  All the ladies in class said this was the most fun piece ever!  They would know wouldn't they?

In less than 2 weeks we start the next mystery class Lulu's La Sirena.  A Frida Kahlo inspired mermaid with her mer-cat.  What a fun summertime piece.  It's not too late to join the fun.  You can signup online or by calling us at410.296.0405.

Remember if you are taking a mystery class and happen to find yourself in town, you can always join the fun.  Janet was here yesterday for class and quickly got adopted into the silliness that is a class of mine.  Thanks for coming Janet it was a real treat.

See you all soon.

Can a Lamp Change Your Life?

Can you LOVE a Lamp?

Well, maybe.  I have been in love with Koncept lamps for over a year now.  They really are life changing.

They are super sleek, aka not ugly!

Small!

Super bright!

Lightweight!

Complete with dimmer switch, now that's just cool!

And most importantly, perfect for needlepoint.

So, without further ado, here's the skinny.  They come in a zillion configurations but here are my favorites, and the ones we will stock.  (If you want a different variant, call or email and we can order.)

First we have the clamp on lamp.  We stock it in Metallic Black.  With the addition of the lamp/accessory adaptor  (sold separately) from Needlework System 4, this will attach easily and happily to your System 4 floor stand.  The arm articulates and moves every which way to get it right over the area you want to stitch.  Each section of the arm is about 14" so you have a nice long reach.  The light is a cool white which is my favorite for stitching.  I think it gives you the truest colors.  With the built in dimmer switch you can adjust the amount of light you want for the area you are stitching. This is a great light to travel with, just collapse it down and you are ready to go. It doesn't take up much room in your suitcase or tote.

Next we have the table variety.  These are available in lots of fun colors to match your decor.  Black and silver come in cool white light, the bright colors only come in warm white light.  Warm white light is the typical light you see from a light bulb, but so much brighter.    The base is weighted so it won't tip on your table.  Now, here's the cool part.  The lamps snap off their base and can be attached to the clamp (sold separately).  Voilá, a travel lamp.  Now you have a lamp that will sit by your chair at home plus be on the go to classes with you.  Pretty cool!

Last but not least, we have the floor lamp.  Sit it by your chair.  It takes up little to no room.  Great for stitching or reading.  It will virtually disappear, until you need it that is.  Metallic black finish with cool white light.

There you have it, the light loves of my life!  If you would like to order you can do so online or by calling us at 410.296.0405.

To my shopowner friends, yes, we offer these wholesale too!

Happy Stitching.

Finishing Options

I love it when a piece comes back from the finisher that is truly out of this world.

I love it even more when there are two.  So different yet the same canvas, stitches and threads!

This is the Playful Squirrel by Sandra Vargas.  It was one of our mystery classes from last Summer.  So fun!  You can still order the canvas and supplies.  It uses lots of great techniques including needle felting.

If you would like your own pet squirrel, no feeding required, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online here.

Lulu's La Sirena

Where does the time go?  We will finish Sitting Pretty by CBK next weekend and I have totally forgotten to post the next mystery class.  Where is my mind?

Our next mystery starting at the end of this month is Lulu's La Sirena!

Is this not just the cutest canvas ever?  I’ve been itching to do a mystery class with a lulu canvas and now is the time.   This one is perfect.  It has lots of pattern and is perfect for all my mermaid and cat lovers, not to mention those who love day of the dead.  The mercat cracks me up!
Classes will be June 28, July 19 and August 9th;  Sunday afternoons from 1-3pm at the shop if you are joining us in person.  You may also sign up for this mystery long distance and have us send it to you in installments.
Canvas design area is 6 x 12 handpainted on 18ct. Class cost is the price of the canvas plus $15 per lesson and the threads, beads etc. necessary for that lesson. The canvas cost for this design is $152.00.
You will need 10 x 16 stretcher bars.
*Class size is limited. Please sign up early to reserve your space and ensure you receive your canvas in time to start with the rest of the class. An $80 non refundable deposit will be required. Balance due at the first class.
We are pleased to be offering exclusive, limited edition snap trays to match the canvas. Keep your threads and stitchy supplies in your tray while working on the project. It's guaranteed to be a perfect companion to the class piece. The snap trays are an additional $48.00. These are limited only to the students in the class. Once the class is over, they will not be available. They are an optional purchase so you don't have to order one, but I know you are going to want to :-) The design is a surprise and won't be unveiled until the first class.
Give us a call at 410.296.0405 to register or sign up on line.
Hope you see you in class.

Pillows, Pillows, Pillows

Or shall I title this blog, Ruching, Repoussé and Dumb bells?

Whatever the title, we had a great time in class yesterday!  This was the second lesson of Sitting Pretty and we focused on the pillows.  Pretty Pillows fit for our royal kitty.

Each pillow is a different stitch and thread combo.  The green pillow is my favorite.  A brand new stitch that the ladies are now calling the dumb bell stitch.  It's accented with Swarovski sequins so you know I love that.

The striped pillow has ruched stripes of Petite Sparkle Rays.  They are fluffy and fun.

We also finished the table and candles.  The candles have crescent flames.  They are completely charted in the instructions. Just follow the numbers.

We are all loving this canvas.  It has lots of little treasures to stitch in it.  Next lesson will be the background and the fishbowl.  It's only two weeks away!

If you would like to join us, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order on line here.
