Who Ate all the Hor d’Oeuvres?

Happy Thanksgiving!!

It has been a whirlwind of a holiday season already and doesn't look like its going to slow down.  That's not necessarily a bad thing :-)  I like to be busy.

We area 90% moved into our new digs and unpacked.  YAY!

We had the two day Thanksgiving class Who Ate all the Hor d’Oeuvres? there this weekend.  The space is happy and fun and everything I could have wished for.

I love the art on the wall;  Karl painted it for me so that it would match our windows from the store.

Lot's of comfy chairs!

The canvas is a Melissa Shirley interpretation of Vicky Sawyer's art and it super fun to stitch and goes fast.  Sometimes 13ct is a good thing.

When I teach a project class I stitch along or at least that's the plan.  Here's my piece as of Saturday morning.  All the stitches are mapped out and ready for the students.

We have established that I am not a birder.  I named all the birds in the instructions a little wonky but they are wearing hats so use your imagination.  Here's my Robin/Finch.  The challenge of this canvas is that we love all the details and color changes, don't want to lose them but don't want to just Tent Stitch.  I selected threads, stitches and employed a good bit of color blending to make all of that happen!

The squirrel has very full, puffy cheeks.  His body will be fluffy when stitched with Burmilana and Wisper in Split Stitch.

Here's my little Blue Bird.  I love the stitch on his tummy.  Thank you Meredith Willet for that one.  So fun.  The paint shows through adding to the depth and dimension.

The Blue Jay/Woodpecker is really my favorite.  If you look at the original canvas, there's lots of shading and colors in there.  I wanted to keep it all.  I selected an open stitch worked a little row of white and then simply changed colors in the pattern to match what was painted underneath.  Super fun and quite effective.

Look who stopped in to be my teaching assistant, Sheena!!  So good to see her.  She's an awesome stitcher and great friend.

Here's the class kit with all the goodies.  Look at all those threads!  If you would like a kit, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online and we'll send one out.  We're waiting for more canvases to arrive but we're happy to put your name on one.

Happy Cyber Monday.

P.S.  With any luck, I'm back on blogging and stitching track.  Next Mystery Class will be announced in a few days.

The Little Details Matter

The second lesson of the Christmas Reindeer Collage Mystery is packed and ready to go!

It's all about the tiny details.  Yes, it's on 13ct but the little things still matter.  My favorite part is the addition of the tiny yellow beads in the yellow patterned stripes and of course the uber cute yellow buttons.

Collages are great fun to stitch;  you get a feeling of accomplishment with each little square you stitch.  At least that's how I look at it.  Today was all about yellow and green and more green and a little purple.  Just filling spaces with fun stitches.

That's totally different from the Thanksgiving class in just a few days that is all about how to make birds wearing hats look real.

We're happily unpacking at the Beehive.  It's looking great!

P.S. For those of you patiently waiting for lesson one, we have confirmation that the felting tools have shipped.  You will receive lessons one and two together.  I'm sorry for the delay.

We interrupt today's scheduled packing for the move to bring you this message from our sponsors.....

Lesson six of The Count is done and on it's way!!!!  Yay!

See, I'm already getting caught up.

Lesson six is all about slime and spiders. EEEK!  It's short and sweet, and not at all seasonal.  Next up for the count after the first of the year will be the borders.  I have visions of the borders in my head.  They are actually what I've been itching to do since the start.

Hope they work.

Hope you love them.

Now, back to packing.

It's Beginning to Feel A Bit Like Christmas!

Halloween is over, the turkey is getting fat and it's time to start thinking about Christmas!

What better way to start the season than with a spiffy new needlepoint?  We all love starting new projects.  Today was the first day of the Christmas Reindeer Collage Mystery Class.

Here it is with the center panel well underway!

His cute little face is needle-felted.  I like needle felting for animals that aren't furry, smooth-coated critters.  It goes fast and there's no distraction of a stitch pattern.

His antlers make a strong statement so that they will hold up those Christmas balls.

Here's the extra fun part.  How often do you decide you don't like a color on a canvas.  What to do?  Paint it out?  Stitch it in an all over pattern that is full coverage?  Yes, these are choice but why not consider just working a lacy pattern in a completely different color?

When I designed this piece I considered many different colors for the background behind the reindeer.  The only thing that worked was brown.  But that still wasn't perfect.  I designed a multi-multi-step background blackwork pattern and stitched it in my new over dyed floche and Petite Silk Lamé Braid.  Love the combo and love my two favorite threads.  It softens the brown nicely.

It wouldn't be a mystery class without a matching magnet designed just for you.
It's our thank you for joining the fun.

We also have matching scissor fobs if you would like one for your collection.  I love this one!

Carol Eix out did herself on the snap tray for this class.  Spot on and oh-so-cute!

If you would like to join the fun, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online here.  We have canvases in stock and can send you your first lesson relatively quickly.

To my ladies already signed up there was a small glitch.  I received my order of felting tools and only got 3.  They didn't tell me they were out of stock when I ordered gobs for the class.  So, if I know you have felting tools, your kit will go out tomorrow.  Yes, my magical computer has cross referenced your previous purchases.  Pretty cool!

If you have a felting tool but didn't purchase it from us, give us a call and we'll send out your kit.   If you need a tool we will send it with your first lesson just as soon as possible.  Sorry for the confusion.

Next lesson in two weeks!

Who Ate All the Hor d'Oervres?

Here we are just weeks from Thanksgiving. Can you believe it?  Where does the time go?  Rhetorical question I know.

I've been a little busy which has put me behind in so many things.  I promise, I'm catching up!!!  Our new format is going to allow me to catch up and stay caught up and do more.  Yay!! I can focus.

Back to Thanksgiving....

It has become a tradition to have a two-day class Thanksgiving weekend  Saturday and Sunday;  it's a small break at the beginning of the crazy holiday season.  It gives us a chance to spend time together stitching and simply enjoying each other's company.

This year I will be teaching the class and the project so appropriately is Who Ate All the Hor d'Oervres? by Vicky Sawyer and Melissa Shirley!  The canvas isn't too large is't 12 x 7 on 13ct.  Should stitch up fairly quickly.  Don't you just love the bird hats.  They are going to be the most fun.

My classes are relaxed.  I have a plan.  There will be a stitch guide.  We will play and stitch together.  It will be a fun two days.

Check your calendars.  If you can get away for a day or two, we'd love to have you.  I have a few spaces left.

Call us at 410.296.0405 to reserve your spot.

Changes are scary and different, but changes are also exciting!!

I’m embarking on a new adventure.  An adventure I am very excited about.

I am delighted to announce “The Beehive”

The Beehive is a special magical place where creativity happens.  It is my studio and office.  Its a place that makes me happy and will allow me to create the types of pieces that you have come to enjoy!  Mystery Classes and Mysteries with a Twist will continue.  I love these projects.  They keep me focused.  They will however happen at a more reasonable rate rather than the slower pace they have been run at lately. I will be able to devote more time to these projects getting them back on track and moving forward with new ones.

With our new format, I will be able to devote more of my time to other creative adventures that I know you will enjoy.  There are so many ideas that I want to share!  I really can’t wait.

The Beehive is a place where I will teach, and invite my friends to teach.  Meredith Willet will be here as will Brenda Hart, Julia Snyder, Jill Rigoli and many of my beading friends.  Sunday afternoons will be the time to be here for class just like always.  No changes.  It will be a super fun place, even more fun than what you are used to!

Bedecked and Beadazzled will continue to exist and most-importantly grow, but it will exist in a different format.  We are going back to our roots as an ON-LINE ONLY RETAIL STORE.  Everyone’s lives are busy these days.  We have limited time and need to prioritize how we use that time.  We shop more on-line.  I am changing my business to match our lifestyle.

I realize it is different picking your threads on-line but as the market changes it is a reality.

Most of you order your projects kitted or ask us to pull threads for you.  We are delighted to continue to do this.  If you have a canvas you would like us to pull threads and or stitches for, we are more than happy to do that!

We are working hard to get the rest of our threads and beads on-line so you can order a single thread as needed.  This is a work in progress, so if you need something you don’t see on-line, email us at and we’ll take care of it.

Business as usual for most of you, with only a slight change for the rest of you.

Thank you for eight and a half fun years, heres to many, many more!    We are together in stitches and beads.

P.S.  The last day for walk in traffic at the store with the lime green walls will be November 14
