Santa Fe Felines Lesson One

We got a package!  What was in that package you ask?  The final missing part for Santa Fe Felines lesson one!  YAY!  All the kits are packed and being picked up by the big brown truck and driver extraordinaire, Sterling, tomorrow.  They are on their way!

In your box you will find the beautiful canvas painted from original art by Laurel Burch, the first part of the stitchguide, and a big wonderful bag of threads.  Not only are the threads pretty but they are packaged in an oh so pretty bag designed just for this class.  This is my gift to you.

In the first lesson you will stitch a cat and the background.  The background stitch is a fun three part stitch using a brand new color of our Color Dreams Floche and Petite Silk Lamé Braid.  YUMMY!

The cats use all types of wonderful threads and stitches.  It really is a fun stitch.  You get a lot done in the first lesson.  This is a Mystery with a Twist so lessons are  planned to be approximately 4 months apart.  Life has been known to get in the way, but we do our best to fit the lessons in between our other regularly scheduled programming.

Here's our pretty thread bag that was trapped in a container for months.  Its a sparkly coppery gold metallic.  It's mesh so your threads will breathe while they are stored in here.

We have matching limited edition snap trays to keep your threads and scissors close at hand while you are stitching.

We have a few extra canvases in stock, so if you would like to join the fun give us a call at 410.296.0405 order online here.  We'll get a kit right out to you.

We also have full size canvas keepers the perfect size for this canvas.  You know you want to keep it safe while you are working on it.  $22 each.  Let us know if we should add one to your order.

Talk to you soon.

P.S.  Next up on my to do list is getting caught up on Why Fit In and then Row of Ladies.  They haven't been forgotten, they are still loved.  We are waiting for a shipment for Why Fit In hopefully that will be here soon.

Have you ever wanted to stitch an advent calendar?

If you start now......

Check out this super cute gingerbread advent house by Kelly Clark!

The base canvas is 14.5 x 18 handpainted on 18ct.  There are 25 individual cookie canvases making it even sweeter.  And of course there is a stitchguide. How could there not be?

Stitchguide was written by my friend Chris at Nimblefingers.

Give us a call at 410.296.0405 if you would like to order or simply follow the yellow brick road to the website ordering here.  We'll be putting these together in the new year.

Santa's getting ready.....

It's only five more days until Santa's big trip to deliver gifts.  It was about time he got his Santa suit on!

Yesterday was our last Mystery Class of the year and we had a lovely time hanging out and visiting while stitching on Santa.

First part of the project was adding in the wonderful curls on Santa's mustache and eyebrows.  They are Outline Stitch worked over the previous stitching.  You can either  freehand them or you can draw them in with a vanishing marker.  That's what I did.  See the little hints of light blue?  I haven't erased them yet.

The main focus was getting his Santa suit just right.  I designed a new stitch for the fabric.  It moves quickly.  Yay!  You know I like that in a stitch, and I like that it looks like a fancy knitted pattern.  So, here's the challenge.  How do we stitch a pattern on the suit and still keep all the strong shading that is so important to the art?

We are taught not to break our stitches over a color change, right?  If a stitch will cover two different shades in a area we need to pick just one shade and go for it.  This is what usually works.  It creates soft transitions of color and doesn't draw your eye unnecessarily to an area.  That works great for the edges of his coat and hat.

But what about the really bold shadow under the tip of his hat?  To create that shadow, we need to break the rules and break the stitches.  By doing that, the shadow has the depth that the artist wanted!  Yay!  A plan comes together.

I fall in love with canvases because of the art.  I want to keep that art as true as possible.  I love stitches but I don't want the stitches to interfere with the beauty of the painting.

And talk about beauty!  Look at this little girl.  Abby came to visit yesterday.  She is 4 months old and a doll.  She's learning to be very good.  With a little bribery she has "sit" down to a science.

We finish Santa in the new year.  Four weeks until class!

In the meantime, I am hoping Santa brings me goodies for Santa Fe Felines and Why Fit In so that they can ship to you.

Who Doesn't Need More Sparkle?

Certainly not Mokie,  our friend Barbara's dog was caught during class napping under the bee tree.  He snuggled right in and was a happy boy.  xo Mokie.  I love that dogs and cats like to sleep under the tree.  The perfect Christmas present.

For the rest of us who may want a little more sparkle, not only do we have super cute sparkly bead ensembles for the holidays (see my previous post) but we have retro Christmas tree magnets and matching fobs!

Matching Pink or Green Scissor Fobs!

Maybe Santa can put one in your stocking? :-)

If you are at a loss for what to tell Santa to bring, I know, your list is loooong, as for a Gift Certificate.  It's not exotic but it will get you what you really want for Christmas.  Gift Certificates can be ordered on-line and redeemed on-line.  Pretty Exciting, no? Here's the link

It's 12 days to Christmas!  11 days to Hanukkah and 13 days to Kwanzaa!  Whichever you celebrate, have a happy one.

Each kit includes a limited edition Christmas magnet.

So much fun stuff.

Beady Time!

We have invited Teresa Sullivan to come teach in February!  She will be here for two days teaching fun do-able beady projects.

On February 4th she will be teaching Zig Zag Beads

Are these not the coolest things ever?  Make a bunch of them  and create a bangle.  Make just a few and you have a necklace.  Maybe a pair becomes a pair of earrings.

On February 5th, we will be making bracelets galore!  Two classes in one day.  This is a class for everyone, all levels of beaders, you can't go wrong with this one.

Bangles with Dangles bracelets are made with two hole beads, accented with bright drop beads.  Fair warning:  these are addictive and best worn in sets of three.

In Klimt Meets Kente we will create mosaic-like effects with relatively simple techniques and a fun variety of beads in different shapes and sizes.  Your choice of colors can evoke the legendary Kente cloth of Ghana, the scintillating paintings of Gustav Klimt, or a long-cherished family quilt.  Raid your button stash for a clasp!

Check your calendar and give us a call at 410.296.0405.  We'd love to have you join the fun.

What to do? What to do?

We fall in love with a canvas that has lots and lots of details.... lots of outlines.

Now what?  We can stitch it all in basketweave and it will be gorgeous.  If you are me it won't get finished.  I'll move on to something else and something beyond that and so it will sit.

But we loved the canvas, so what to do?

David Galchutt's santa is just such a conundrum.  Santa's beard and hair and mustache are exactly the issue.  There's lots of detail and colors that I love.  What were my choices?

Basketweave? - nope, not going to finish it

Packed Outline? - beautiful, but again, I will get bored.  This probably would have been the absolute prettiest option but I know my patience level.

A fun all over stitch? - that's going to mess with my head and either obliterate all the pretty details or make his beard sink behind everything else on the canvas.

hmmmmm, here's what I decided to do.  I ignored all the outlines.  I stitched everything in Diagonal Long Stitch!  I changed colors.  I used Petite Silk Lamé Braid.  Voilá.  It worked! The shared holes of the stitches replace the Outlines that were all throughout the design.

And other than his eyebrows, I finished him in time for class yesterday!

We also stitched the basics of the border.  Next class is in two weeks.  Maybe it's time for Santa to get dressed.

We have a few canvases in stock so if you've been thinking about Santa, give us a call at 41.296.0405 or order online and we'll send him right out.  Ho Ho Ho, he wants to visit you!

A new lulu for a new year!

What do you think?  Let's stitch a brand new lulu mypinkturtle canvas as the first mystery class of the new year!

We all love lulu so much, and this canvas is certain to be even cuter once we add threads, beads and stitches to it.  Imagine the possibilities!

Lulu's angel queen is 10 x 10 handpainted on 18ct.  We will stitch her in 3 lessons either in person or long distance.  Class dates are January 29, February 12 and 26, 2017.

We'd love to have you join us.  Sign up online or give us a call at 410.296.0405.

P.S.  We have new super cute snap trays just for this class.  Can't wait to show you.

Artemis, Oh Artemis!

Check this out!  I am totally in love with this guy.  Talk about embellishing needlepoint and taking it to the next dimension.

Artemis was designed and stitched by Brenda Stofft.  OH MY is he cool.  From the tips of his needle felted ears, to his cute little vest with silk ribbon embroidery, to the basket on his back filled with all kinds of treasures, he is a show stopper.

We have invited Brenda to teach him for us next year.  This is definitely a class with a little bit of everything plus the kitchen sink.  Just look at all the things you will learn. If you work hard in class you will leave with his little head complete so that you are assured your bunny will look just as cute as Brenda's.  What?  Did I just say you would finish something in class?  Yep, it is just his head but even that is a huge accomplishment.

Save the dates March 3-5, 2017.  Spaces are filling fast!  We can't do ghosts for this class, sorry.

We require a $300 non refundable deposit to save your spot.

Give us a call if you can join us.

So Much Sparkle!

This may be it!  My sparkliest piece ever!

This is a year that needs love and sparkle.  Glitter is good too.

Thanksgiving weekend is always a  fun weekend at Bedecked and Beadazzled.  A weekend of friends and stitching.

This year I chose a Tapestry Fair canvas as the weekend project.  It's called Christmas Abstract and its bright and happy and sparkly!!!

It's not too big, only 10 x 10 on 18ct and filled with wonderful colors! All of my favorite colors. We used lots of Petite Silk Lamé Braid and sequins and more sequins and Swarovski crystals and beads.

There's still a lot more beads to be added to this but you get the idea.

Each candle, ornament or snowflake is it's own little gem to stitch.  It's really a lot of fun.

Wish you were here to share the weekend with us.  Maybe next time.

If you would like a fun stitch for under the Christmas tree, give us a call and we'll send this right out.

Beaches, mermaids and seashells

I'm dreaming of sunshine and it's not even Winter yet.

How can I not be, when I look at this little mermaid.  She's such a pretty little mermaid with her mercat.

Designed by lulu mypinkturtle and taught as a mystery class last summer, La Sirena and her mercat make me happy, really happy!

This version belongs to Flora's granddaughter.  How cute is it???

She is available kitted if you would like to add a little sunshine to your life, and she's a quick stitch.

Give us a call 410.296.0405 and we'll send her your way or order on-line here.

P.S.  Spoiler alert.....  We are going to stitch another  lulu canvas for our January mystery.  Stay tuned for the announcement.
