Catching Fish!

Remember Sitting Pretty from last year's rotation of mystery classes?

It's back from the finisher and it's just too darn cute!  I'm particularly fond of the fish on the top.  They seem to be trying to play just out of reach.

And here's Sitting Pretty framed.  Super colorful and fun.

There are so many fun details in this canvas, from the fluffy tail to the tassels on the pillows, you won't get bored stitching this one.

If you would like to stitch your own Sitting Pretty, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online here.

Hope you are having a wonderful long weekend.

Look who's stitching the Bird in the Nest!!

Oh my!  Oh my!  Looky! Looky!

The one and only Coni of Spinster Stitcher fame is stitching the Zecca bird in a nest following my stitch guide!  Yay, Coni!

She's doing a fantabulous job.  Of course she is;  she's a fabulous stitcher and a super fun read.  Perfect for the first long weekend of the summer.

So sit back and check out her blog.  If you scroll back to May 10, you will see where she picks up this fun project from her WIP pile and decides to finish it.  There are daily posts showing her progress, her challenges, her dog Stewey.  (Hey Stewey, hugs from Auntie Ruth)

I originally designed the guide to this canvas as a mystery class several years ago and it is still one of my most favorite pieces.  You can see my progress on it here.

Our Bird Has Flown Home!

If you would like to stitch this wonderful bird, we have canvases on order and are happy to send one your way completely kitted with all the fun threads, buttons and goodies we used.  Just give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online here.

Maybe one day I will start blogging my daily stitching progress.  Oh wait that means I would stitch everyday.  Hmmm, gotta work on that one.  Right now my life is devoted to the new app, the new website and a few other techy things.  Sigh.  No stitching for me since last Saturday.

Enjoy your start of summer, it's finally stopped raining here but now it's hot!

It's Raining Sequins!

It's time to start a new canvas.  Don't you think?  Yes, it's definitely time.  It's been raining and raining and raining so it's time to let a little sparkle in.

Sparkle is good, right?

Lots of sparkle is even better, right?

Well. I think it is.

Now that the Wild Salmon class is complete and you know how that mystery ends, its time to dive into a brand new canvas/mysery.  Run, Bunny, Run by our good friend Karen at zecca.  The first class was this past Sunday.

This canvas is really different. It's quiet.  Well, as quiet as zecca's style can be :-)

I wanted to capture the quiet of the canvas, the subtle, pretty, barely there pink background, the shimmer I knew it wanted to have.

The answer was sequins.  Many, many sequins.  So any sequins that I'm not done sequining mine yet :-)  You know how that goes.  Soon.  It's lots of fun.

I started with big random Jessicas in the background.

 And then I started sequining!

The grass is a fun new variation of a grounding stitch.  It moves fast.  You know I love that in a stitch.

There's just about 3 weeks until lesson two.  Plenty of time to catch up and join the fun.  If you would like to join us give us a call at 410.296.0405 and we'll sign you up.  We can ship lesson one immediately and then you will be in the queue for the next lessons as they are released.  This class runs through August.  There's lots of fun to be had.

As with all of our classes there are fun "go withs" for those of you who choose to play along.  There's a super-fabulous-best-ever snap tray by Carol Eix with art work from zecca.

And a scissor fob and magnet by accoutrement designs!

Stay tuned there's fun stuff just around the corner.

Bejing Traffic Dash!

If dashing through traffic is anything like this canvas depicts, then all I have to say is WOW!

Bejing Traffic Dash was designed by Sharon Hendy-Moman.  Carol selected this canvas for my embellishment class and I did my best to make the guide truly special and fun.

It's all stitched now and Carol did a beautiful job adding some of her own touches!  I love the braids.

If you would like your own Traffic Dash, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online here.

Happy Friday!

This and That

Where does the time go.  Brenda Hart was here last weekend so I have lots of fun canvases to share.

There would have been more if I had remembered to take pictures for you.
I will do better next time.  :-)

Here are a few of the wonderful projects that are now much loved WIPs.

You can never go wrong with a Charley Harper.  This one is called Treed.

This new fish by Brooke Connor is going to be so cool when finished.  We lovingly call it the Franken Fish.  So many fun techniques and stitches will be used.  I can't wait to see it finished.

Alice from Sandra Vargas is coming to life.

Carol had a great idea that she wanted the background to represent all the playing card suits.  I jumped in and gave her a fun new background.  This is to be worked as columns of darning patterns with rows of elongated tent between them.

A super simple Christmas canvas by Machelle Sommerville is the perfect stage for great stitches and threads.

Marylou brought her House Hunt canvas finished to perfection.  She made a few changes along the way.  Some of which I am thinking about adopting on mine.  See it's a good thing mine isn't finished yet.

House Hunt was our first Mystery Class of the year.  It's still available and super fun to stitch.  If you would like one, give us a jingle at 410.296.0405 and we'll send it your way.

More fun stuff to follow.  Carol brought Bejing Traffic Dash finished but I will save those pictures for another day!

Pretty Pretty Zecca Ribbons

You know I love all things zecca

I also love ribbon

So, what's not to love when two of my favorite things collide?

Zecca and ribbon!  Look at these beauties.
These are beautifully woven ribbons, not just pretty printed ribbons!
And they are all in stock waiting for you to love them and do creative, beautiful things with them.

7/8" owls

7/8" fish

7/8" fall leaves
3/8" orange polka dots

3/8" purple polka dots

Coming soon we have these two designs.  Both are 7/8" wide. Can you say Citizens of the Jungle?

Good thing I haven't finished my canvas yet.  I think it needs these :-)

Oh wait!  Could that have been part of the plan?

Give us a call at 410.296.0405 if you need ribbons.
You can order Citizens of the Jungle  the canvas, guide and threads via phone or  web.

Talk to you soon.

To Catch A Fish!

The Wild Salmon Mystery Class is now finished and I love the way this canvas came to life.  I had a few surprises for you on this one....

You saw the first fish in lesson two.  Now there are two more completed.  They all use essentially the same stitches but with a few twists.

The big side fins on both fish are just buttonhole stitches worked with 7mm ribbon.  For the bottom fish all stitches pretty much shared a common hole where the needle sinks in to the canvas.

For the top fish the buttonhole stitch starts at the top of the fin with a short stitch and works around the curve with no shared holes and each stitch getting longer as you follow the curve.

Pretty cool!  One stitch same thread but two totally different looks!

You know I love beads, I've always loved beads.  I've couched rows of beads before and I've done beaded backstitch before, but.......  thanks to Kinga Nichols coming to teach I have now improved my technique!  The tail on the top fish is embellished with rows of beaded backstitch!  Woo Hoo!

The final touch is the big teal border.  Hmmm, what to do?  I really didn't want any texture, just super smooth.  I could have Tent Stitched it and that would work but the curves wouldn't be as smooth as I would like and it wouldn't be as smooth as I would like so......  Applique to the rescue.  Beautiful green felt is appliqued to the canvas with tiny stitches.  It goes fast and gave me the look I wanted.  Win.  Win.

It's off for finishing now.   We have canvases in stock if you would like to order a kit. Just give us a call and we'll make it happen.

Next up is Run Bunny Run by Zecca and Row of Ladies II.  Let's see where those two projects go.

Thanks for visiting.
