It's Really Ready!

It's true.  Lesson 5 of Why Fit In is ready to roll!

I'm so excited about it.  I love this piece!  It is my all time favorite stitch to date.   The colors and patterns make me happy.

This lesson was all about getting the border going.  You know I like smaller areas so this was a bit daunting.  Lots of border.  Lots of one color.   Hmmmm.

The saying is stitched in sparkly metallic, and the purple behind it is custom dyed Color Dreams Floche.  YUMMY!!

Frame that yummy purple with ribbons!  Karen from zecca has been designing gorgeous ribbons for many of her canvases and this canvas is no exception.  Why Fit In Ribbon!!!!!  OMG it's fabulous.

Of course we needed more beads.  You know my love affair with beads.  The green beads frame the piece nicely and by stitching down the ribbon first everything lays nice and smooth.

The blue leaves add a pop of color.

One more lesson for this project and then we will see what calls my name next.  I promise it won't be another year and a half before we finish.  I know it's been a terribly long wait for this lesson.

If you have been thinking about joining the fun of this canvas. Give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online here and we'll send it your way.

Leaves, Leaves, So Many Leaves!

Today was the final lesson of the zecca hummingbird class!  There were leaves, so many leaves....

Yes, lots of leaves but the good thing is that we did them all a little differently.  Different threads, different stitches, different techniques!

We used Rainbow Gallery's new Glisten thread, which I am quite intrigued with, to create dew kissed grasses.  Petite Peluche makes fabulous fluffy leaves.

Everyone's favorite leaves are the large green ones at the bottom.  Raised Close Herringbone.  It's really a lot of fun!

Some of the leaves are felt, adding yet another new texture to the garden.

So much happy greenery!  It really wasn't so bad doing it all at once :-)

The canvas, stitchguide and threads are now available as a complete kit.  You can order here or give us a call at 410.296.0405

The Count is back!

Oh Em Gee!  He's just the cutest.  You can only imagine my squeal of delight when I opened the box and he was finished!!!!  Too Stinkin' cute!  That's all I have to say.

This is the Count by Tapestry Fair.  He was a club, a mystery, a long term affair. Now he is available as canvases with stitchguide.  You can stitch just his wings as I did or stitch his body too.  He really is too stinkin' cute and if you stay focused is a relatively quick stitch.  He has rings on the back of his wings so he can fly like Peter Pan.

I worked all kinds of fun and different techniques into the panels of his wings.  Not only did I use great threads and all sorts of stitches but there are embellishments galore and beads!!!  You know I love beads so there are crystals and shaped beads and bits of brick beading and peyote beading.  All kinds of coolness.

The edges of his wings are beautiful shibori ribbon.  Shibori ribbon is pre-pleated hand dyed silk ribbon.  YUMMY!

All in, it's a fun project.  If you would like to stitch the Count you can order the canvas with or without the body to stitch. He is much cuter with a stitched body but if you have my attention span.....

It's never too early to start stitching for Halloween :-)

Updated apps, Yay!

The iphone/ipad apps have been updated!

If you already own any of my 4 iStitches apps you may have noticed them throwing a pesky error message when you open them.  They say that they may no longer work with future versions of the operating system and that they may slow down your phone.

Violá  we have updated them and now they behave nicely again.

Four apps each with 300+ stitches arranged alphabetically and by stitch type, happiness is!

If you already own them, go to the app store on your iphone.  In the tool bar at the bottom of the screen click on updates.  Scroll through the list of apps that can be updated on your device and update.  Yes, you have to do it on each device but that's not so bad.  It's free.

If you don't have these handy apps, you can download them through tunes.  He's the main link on my website for all four apps.  They are exactly the same stitches as my books but packaged in a nice little app so they are with you wherever you go.

Happy Stitching

Play Day with Karen

And now for something totally different.... I took a day off.  While Karen was here from zecca she and I spent a day playing, shopping, eating and visiting.

No, no food photos.  Sorry. I can tell you there was Tropical Champagne involved.

We visited one of our favorite places that I don't get to nearly enough considering I live here.  The American Visionary Arts Museum.  It is a museum filled with outsider art and changing exhibits.  The current exhibit Yummi was all about the history, fantasy, future of food.

You can imagine this was my favorite part of the show.  Look at all that color!  A mandala made from paper plates.

'

And there's bees that fly around it.  It moves!!!!

If you want to see it move, click here.  I'm in love.

There was also this guy made entirely from peeps.  There were a lot of other food related things that were creepy.  I really don't want to know if there are bug remains in my food etc..... Thanks for sharing, NOT!

Remember Mad Magazine?

Love these two great pieces from Chris Roberts Antieu.

How about this for a spiffy ride?

Looking forward to seeing what's new for the next show.  I know Betsy Youngquist will be having an exhibit soon.  I love her work and it's beaded!!!  I will have to check it out.

One of Nine

Kimberly has created the sweetest most spectacular group of mini canvases.  Stitch one, or stitch them all and showcase them together.

Each is only 5" x 5" handpainted on 18ct and complete with stitchguide.  They really are a tour de force of techniques and fun.

The first is Yes, I'm Special, and yes it is!

Loads of yummy threads and sparkles.  The stitches are great.  You are going to want to dig in quick on this one.

If you would like to order a kit, here's the link;  or give us a call at 410.296.0405.

the magical world of zecca

Welcome to the Magical World of Zecca.  It's a land where all things are colorful and fun.  :-)

We are delighted to announce that we are running a zecca trunkshow.  Each canvas is more fabulous than the next.

Now through May 21st zecca canvases will be 20% off!  YAY! A few exclusions apply, but not many.  Why Fit In, Hummingbird and a Couple of Friends are not included in the sale.

Visit the canvases online in our shop here.

Have you seen her newest models?

I love these birds.  There are two per canvas.  You stitch and finish them essentially as ornaments and then hang them one from the next in a window or on a wall.  Oh so fun.

Her sardine clutch is super cute.  Just big enough for the essentials.

Lots of fun ornaments to decorate the tree or better yet, leave out all year.

Order your favorites for happy summertime stitching.  Prices shown on the website are before the discount.  We will adjust the amount you are charged before actually processing the charge.

A couple of friends

What happens when a couple of friends with a love of needlepoint have a party and invite more needlepointers?
Shenanigans ensue!

Welcome to Zecca Retreat 2017!

This year's canvas is called A Couple of Friends.  How perfect is that?   It's kind of cheeky.  A blue pigeon is talking to his friend the golden statue bird in front of a family photo of birds hanging on bird wallpaper.  Tee Hee.

Such are the things from the mind of zecca.  :-)

For zecca retreat, Karen Hennessey of zecca fame designs the canvas, I do the stitchguide and then we have a stitch-in where I teach the piece.  It's a super fun relaxing way to spend a couple of days among friends.

The canvas is not too big fitting on 11 x 15 stretcher bars.  The blue pigeon is stitched in beautiful silks with fun stitches taht make him look feathery.

The gold bird is a multitude of stitch patterns and different gold threads and funky embellishments all selected to make him more magical and oh so vintage.

If you would like your very own birds to fly your way, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order online here.

Hugs from Karen (aka Zecca) and I.  Next zecca retreat will be October 2018.  Hope to see you there.  We've already started planning!
