Techniques, techniques and more techniques

When I asked Brenda Stofft to design a steampunk witch just for us I never dreamed it would be this spectacular.  The canvas is gorgeous!  That goes without saying.  All of Brenda's canvases are spectacular but this one really captured my heart.

I love the colors, the details, just everything about it.  And then I started designing the stitches.  The planets aligned and I was smitten.  This is just so much fun to stitch.  There isn't a lot of any one thing so I didn't have a chance to get bored.  We all know my attention span or lack there of.

What happened next was totally unexpected.  One area asked for a special magical technique and then another and another and another.  There are so many different things to experiment with in this canvas.  Leather applique, shibori ribbon, wirelace, needle painting, beads, repousse.  You name it, it's in here.

In my mind, it's all about the right thread or technique for the area to create the dimension the art needs.

Look at this owl and the bat hanging from the pumpkin.  Totally steampunk.

I really like designing clothing on canvases.  Lots of fun little details.

The wolf is long and short stitched with Burmilana.  Good progress was made in class on the wolf.

I demonstrated all the techniques.

Ellen finished her corset!  Look at all she got done in three days!

 Everyone had fun.

Some students even dressed the part.  That's dedication.  Fur in August in Baltimore!

Sheena made the trip from Cleveland.  We set up her magical zero gravity recliner so that her back didn't give her fits and all was good.

Thank you everyone who attended class.  I can't think of a better way to spend a weekend then with you girls!

P.S.  We have canvases in stock so if you would like a witch of your very own, give us a call at 410.296.0405 or order here.
